“What happened is a real tragedy but Manuel is now in the kingdom of heaven.” Thus today the parish priest of the Chianacce church in the municipality of Cortona (Arezzo) Don Luigi Cancellieri in the homily for the funeral of Manuel Cavanna, the 23 year old, professional mechanic in a company in Centoia in the Cortona area, victim of an accident at work last Friday in Tre Berte, in the municipality of Montepulciano (Siena), while working on an agricultural trailer.
The church and square hosted a thousand people who gathered around Manuel’s parents, sister and nephew.
All present were the 240 inhabitants of Chianacce and friends from the nearby hamlets where Manuel was well known. The mayor of Cortona Luciano Meoni was also present at the funeral as a sign of closeness to the family on the part of the administration.
The words of his childhood friend Leo are touching: “Our passions were fishing and motorbikes, this was enough for us to be happy”. At the end of the funeral the coffin was accompanied by a procession of motorbikes which ‘revved up’ to the nearby Farneta cemetery where the young man will be buried.
