Administrative and referendum, Chambers closed for ten days. The reforms on stand-by

Parliament is preparing for the electoral break for the vote on June 12 in almost a thousand municipalities, in addition to the referendums on justice. The stop to allow parliamentarians to tour Italy for rallies compared to the traditional seven days is extended to more than ten. Thus some key measures slip, already on stand-by due to political divisions and now ended up in electoral limbo.

Draghi’s pressing for justice reform

For other bills, the “stop” risks not being random, politically. This is the case of the reform of the CSM, which in several points coincides with the referendum questions promoted by Lega and Radicali. The text is being examined by the Senate Justice Commission, which must vote on the amendments (260 presented), before arriving in the classroom set for 14.

A reform that, after the majority agreement on bathing establishments and the tax authorities, Prime Minister Mario Draghi urged to complete “promptly”. The strong perplexities of Lega and Italia Viva weigh on the last go-ahead of Palazzo Madama: a modification to Palazzo Madama would imply a third reading in the Chamber and the impossibility of electing the new CSM in September, as the government would like. It is plausible, on the Northern League front, that the situation will unlock after the referendum.

The closures of the Chamber and Senate

The stop to parliamentary work for the administrative vote will concern the Chamber and committees. In Montecitorio the closure is already official and covers 11 days, from 2 to 12 June. So the presidents of the groups decided, also incorporating the “bridge” for the Republic day.

At Palazzo Madama the seal should arrive on Monday 30 May, with the conference of the group leaders. The parliamentary break is actually extended by a couple of days and includes the summit of the European People’s Party which will meet in Rotterdam on May 31 and June 1. Silvio Berlusconi is also expected. Hence the request made by the Forza Italia group to participate, obviously absent from Parliament. Request granted.
