After 13 years they capture feminicide, initially it was thought that the woman’s death had been accidental – news

A prosecutor assigned to the Casanare section managed to resume the case of a woman who was found dead in August 2011, in the waters of the Cusiana River.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition in which the body was found, in the autopsy performed at the Aguazul health center (Casanare), the cause of death could not be established exactly. Since then the case has not made any further progress.

But due to the judicious study of the prosecutor who took up the case, it was detected that something did not add up in the entire process, which is why, 12 years later, she requested the exhumation of the victim’s remains that rested in a cemetery in the department of Boyacá.

Subsequently, at the Colombian Institute of Legal Medicine of Villavicencio (Meta), with the help of cutting-edge technology, forensic anthropologists studied each bone of the victim for three months.

After this judicious and scientific analysis it was established that the death of Nancy Liliana Bello Avella had not been accidental but due to strangulation.

Based on this new evidentiary material, the Prosecutor’s Office asked a judge for an arrest warrant against Juan Carlos Salamanca Ariza, for being the person allegedly responsible for committing the crime.

The investigation made it possible to determine that on the day of her death, the victim, identified as Nancy Liliana Bello Avella, was being taken by her then romantic partner to the municipality of Aguazul (Casanare), and that during the journey an argument occurred between the couple who would have ended with the death of the victim.

The capture of Salamanca Ariza was carried out by officials of the Casanare Technical Investigation Corps on February 20 in the city of Sogamoso (Boyacá), in coordination with units of the Army’s Gaula.

The Prosecutor’s Office charged him with the crimes of aggravated homicide in conjunction with concealment, alteration or destruction of material evidence.

It is worth clarifying that on the date of the crime (2011) the crime of feminicide did not exist. The prosecutor in the case presented him before a judge with a guarantee control function, who endorsed the material evidence provided by the prosecuting entity and imposed a security measure on him in prison as the alleged person responsible for the murder of his wife at the time of the events. .
