Venezuelan Arrested in U.S. Believed to be Member of Criminal Gang Tren de Aragua

Georgia prosecutors have revealed that Venezuelan Diego Ibarra, who was arrested in February for presenting a false residency card in the United States, is suspected to be a member of the notorious criminal gang Tren de Aragua. This gang has expanded its activities to several South American countries, including Colombia, Chile, and Peru, and now reportedly has a presence in the U.S.

Diego Ibarra, the brother of José Antonio Ibarra who was arrested as a suspect in the murder of nursing student Laken Riley at the University of Georgia, has been linked to the Aragua Train based on evidence uncovered by the Georgia Prosecutor’s Office. The office presented photos of Diego Ibarra’s tattoos, which include a five-pointed crown on his neck and five-pointed stars, believed to be associated with the gang.

Furthermore, Department of Homeland Security investigators have identified social media accounts used by Diego Ibarra, where he is seen making signs related to the Aragua Train and posing with guns, according to CNN.

Despite the denial of bail by a federal judge in Georgia, Diego Ibarra faces charges of possessing a fraudulent document, as well as evidence connecting him to the criminal gang.

The Aragua Train, which originated from workers in the construction of the Venezuelan Railway in 2005, has evolved into a powerful criminal organization involved in extortion, drug trafficking, and other illicit activities. With over 4,000 members, the gang has established a presence in multiple countries, including the U.S.

Authorities are on high alert as they work to curb the influence and reach of the Aragua Train, especially as members are suspected of infiltrating migrant groups seeking asylum in the United States. The ongoing presence of criminal elements like the Aragua Train poses a serious threat to public safety and security in both South America and the U.S.
