Xi Jinping Emphasizes Importance of Strategic Capabilities in Emerging Fields at National People’s Congress
On March 7, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the plenary meeting of the People’s Liberation Army and Armed Police Force delegation at the Second Session of the 14th National People’s Congress. During the meeting, Xi Jinping delivered an important speech highlighting the significance of strategic capabilities in emerging fields for the country’s development and national security.
Representatives from various military sectors such as the Navy, Strategic Support Force, Southern Theater Command, and the Academy of Military Sciences also made speeches regarding maritime situational awareness capabilities, cyber defense capabilities, artificial intelligence applications, space resource management, and unmanned combat forces.
Xi Jinping stressed the need to enhance strategic capabilities in emerging fields by focusing on improving maritime military struggles, aerospace development, cyberspace defense, and smart technology projects. He emphasized the importance of innovation and independent research in driving growth in emerging fields, as well as the need for comprehensive reform and integration to adapt to the rapidly changing technological landscape.
The meeting was presided over by Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, and attended by other top military officials. Xi Jinping’s speech at the National People’s Congress underscores the government’s commitment to advancing China’s military and technological capabilities in line with national development goals.
