Bad weather in July: a state of crisis declared but Belluno is not there

by admin

The Region has activated the procedure for the bad weather of 25 July, when wind and hail also uncovered some houses

BELLUNO. A terrible day, that of July 25, with wind and very strong rains and violent hailstorms that created a lot of damage. Yet another adverse weather event in a long series within a really difficult weather window for the Belluno area. The Arpav weather report of the previous day had announced the arrival of the disturbance, but there was little that could be done to contain the worst consequences.

The sky has been unleashed in different areas of the lower part of the province, from Feltre to Ponte nelle Alpi and the exceptional bad weather has put private and public bodies in difficulty and the Region has already declared the state of crisis to be transmitted to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in order to request any declaration of a “State of Emergency”. The first provision of the Zaia junta dates back to the hours immediately following the event, which in some areas of the Veneto remained active, causing damage, until 27 July. The decree of the President of the Region specifically mentions several Venetian localities, including Feltrino and Valbelluna, but not the city of Belluno, which also had to deal with numerous critical issues. Houses uncovered by the wind, flooded cellars and properties battered by hail required the intervention of the municipal civil protection and firefighters who activated for 16 requests for help only within the municipal area.

The request for the state of crisis was sent by the mayor of Belluno, Jacopo Massaro, in the hours immediately following the event and it is not excluded that it will be accepted in a subsequent regional provision, but at the moment the capital is not included.

“The recognition of the state of crisis and therefore of calamity occurs when the weather event affects the entire municipal area or a large part of it”, highlights the head of municipal civil protection, Paolo Zaltron. «In Belluno the areas affected were mainly those of via Vittorio Veneto, the city center and Borgo Pra, with considerable damage to both private and public properties, all mentioned in the request sent to the Region. We will verify if the damages suffered by Belluno will fall within a subsequent decree or if there are obstacles to the recognition of the state of crisis », concludes Zaltron.
