The extensive snowfall which has affected the whole of Trentino since late morning did not cause any particular inconvenience to traffic. It is expected that, after a probable pause, rainfall will resume, more intense and widespread in the evening and night, and then end in the early hours of Thursday.
In the afternoon temperatures began to increase in the monitoring stations high up in the southern sectors and in the evening and the following night the snow level is expected to be around 1,000-1,300 metres, especially in the west where snow or snow mixed with rain could fall even at lower altitudes during the most intense phases, in the more closed and less ventilated valleys, while in the southern sectors the snow altitude may rise up to 1,500-1,800 metres. Precipitation is expected to gradually end, starting from the western sectors, in the early hours of Thursday and then ceasing everywhere in the early morning.
Overall, for the entire event, accumulations of 10-30 centimeters or more of snow are expected above 1,500 meters and smaller values at lower altitudes.
Between Thursday and Friday, a cold front is expected to pass through the Alps towards the south-east, with possible light rainfall during the night and in the morning accompanied by strong föhn gusts which, locally, could exceed 60 kilometers per hour. A sudden drop in temperatures is also expected, first in the mountains and, in the following days, when the wind stops, also on the valley floors.
Meanwhile, the cleaning and treatment operations of the road network continue by the Road Management Service of the Province of Trento which, in certain sections, is supported by private entrusted companies.
