Bodies found in Ensenada well could be those of three foreign surfers, Baja California prosecutor points out

The three bodies that were located in a well in Ensenada, Baja California, have been confirmed to be those of two Australian brothers and their American friend who were reported missing on April 27. The head of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), María Elena Andrade Ramírez, confirmed this information, stating that they are only waiting for the arrival of the relatives to identify the victims.

The bodies were found more than 15 meters deep in an area that was difficult to access. Rescuers, firefighters, and FGE experts worked for hours in the La Bocana well, Santo Tomás, to recover the remains adequately. Authorities continued to work in the rough area in search of more evidence.

The three young men, identified as brothers Jake and Callum Robinson from Australia and Jack Carter Rhoad from the United States, were reported missing after failing to arrive at their Airbnb in Rosarito on April 29. They had arrived at the Puerto Faro San José beach to practice surfing over the weekend and were last seen in the area where the bodies were discovered.

Following the disappearance report, Mexican authorities established communication with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US and Australian Consulates. In the afternoon of May 2, three people, two men, and a woman of Mexican origin, were arrested for their possible involvement in the disappearance and murder of the three tourists.

The investigation indicates that the suspects intercepted the tourists during their trip, seized their vehicle, and allegedly murdered them. Evidence such as remains of a tent, clothing, blood stains, drag marks, and a cell phone belonging to one of the victims were found. The suspects attempted to dispose of the bodies in the well to avoid detection.

The discovery of a semi-burned Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck with California license plates, one of the vehicles in which the tourists traveled, was also reported. The relatives of the victims are expected to arrive in Baja California on Saturday, May 4, to confirm the identities of the deceased.

In Australia, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed concern for the missing Australians, assuring that government agencies are providing support to the families and working with Mexican authorities to locate the whereabouts of the Robinson brothers.
