Burning in the former “Cordasco” quarry – breaking latest news

by admin

SARNO. Flames and a black blanket of smoke. This was the scene that gripped, yesterday morning, the former Cava Cordasco in the Sarnese locality of Foce, where waste, even special waste, abandoned in the area near the Vallone del Monaco, caught fire.
To put out the flames, even the intervention of the local detachment of the Fire Brigade was necessary, alerted by a volunteer from the Kronos association of Salerno, who took almost the entire morning to get the better of the fire and deal safely. charred waste. And if fortunately the flames have been extinguished, the causes that gave rise to the fire have not yet been disclosed, which indignant not only the citizens residing in the area, but also those of the entire Sarnese community and, in particular, that of Foce. For some time, in fact, residents have been asking for more checks in disused quarries to curb the phenomenon of waste fires, sometimes even of a toxic nature.
The episode sparked controversy also on the local political front. From Antonello Manuel Rega, municipal councilor of opposition in the “Sarno Civica”, comes the appeal to the civic sense of his fellow citizens. “Once again we are faced with a dangerous situation for the health of that part of the community that lives in the area involved – said the representative of the Sarnese minority council -, and I am aware that here the municipal administration can do very little . Control actions are certainly necessary to prevent illegal dumping of waste in natural areas like this, but most of the work comes from the civic sense of each of us. Special waste, bulky or simple waste materials must be disposed of according to the rules, in order to preserve the environment, to take care of nature and above all to respect our health and urban decor ».
