The Crotone Public Prosecutor’s Office issued a guarantee notice to the mayor of Cotronei, Nicola Belcastro, in relation to the tampering of the water divider located in Trepidò, due to which there was a lower water flow in other neighboring municipalities.

The crimes alleged against Belcastro, on the basis of the investigations carried out by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Crotone, are interruption of public service, attack on public utility facilities and aggravated damage.

According to what emerged from the investigative activity, the tampering with the water divider was committed last Thursday, the police report. Belcastro would have entered the building that houses the water divider, and would have forced the padlock placed to close the metal door, and thus would have acted on the drinking water supply valves, “illegitimately varying the water flow.”

The water divider was impounded. Investigations are continuing to identify any further responsibilities.
