Canton Fair Observation: “Christmas Orders” Increase Slightly, Purchasing Demand Tends to be Practical

China News Service, Guangzhou – As the holiday season approaches, the demand for Christmas gifts and decorations from China has seen a slight increase, with buyers focusing on practicality over extravagant displays. The China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, is a significant event for buyers looking to source new products for the upcoming Christmas season.

The second phase of the 134th Canton Fair is currently taking place in Guangzhou, showcasing a vibrant festive atmosphere. Buyers from Europe and the United States were seen exploring the gifts and decorations area, admiring the Christmas-themed displays and consulting with exhibitors. Some buyers even filled their shopping baskets with samples, expressing their satisfaction with the products available.

Despite the challenges posed by the global economic environment, many Chinese gift and decoration companies remain optimistic about the Christmas order volume for next year. Zheng Pengfei, General Manager of Shunmei Group, noted that this year’s Christmas orders have already increased by approximately 20% compared to previous years. Additionally, most of the orders have already been delivered. Some European buyers even placed additional orders at the Canton Fair, further boosting confidence in the order volume for next year.

Zeng Huaping, Manager of Quanzhou Light Art Co., Ltd., mentioned that this year’s Christmas products have already been produced and are ready to be shipped overseas. Similar to the Chinese New Year, Christmas is a traditional festival celebrated by people worldwide, leading to consistent order volumes over the years. However, due to the overseas economic climate and excess stock, some families in Europe and the United States are expected to reduce their Christmas consumption expenditures. Consequently, buyers are now emphasizing the practicality and aesthetics of the products while expanding their range of offerings.

Current Christmas products are characterized by their practicality and diverse varieties. For instance, products with light strips are particularly popular as they serve both decorative and lighting purposes. Similarly, vases suitable for flower arrangements or displays have gained significant attention. Manufacturers are focusing on developing new products according to market demand, improving product quality, and enhancing their competitiveness in the market.

At the booth of Deyi Cultural and Creative Group Co., Ltd., a 2.3-meter-high Christmas tree adorned with various ornaments caught the eye of buyers. Unlike other products that display trees and ornaments separately, this product combines the two, providing a more intuitive experience for buyers. Ouyang Jun, Vice President of the company, expressed enthusiasm for the positive response received within hours of the second phase’s opening. The company has already reached cooperation intentions with customers from the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, and other countries.

Guangdong Yinghao Craft Products Co., Ltd. also attracted a steady stream of visitors with their exquisite Christmas decorations. The company’s products, adorned in traditional Christmas colors of red and green with additional touches of pink and silver, have made their way to over 130 countries and regions worldwide. The company hopes to leverage the Canton Fair to expand into even more markets.

Although the overall increase in “Christmas orders” is slight, the Canton Fair remains a vital platform for global buyers to find new and practical Christmas products. With the exhibitors’ focus on meeting the demands of buyers, the future of the Christmas gift and decoration industry looks promising.
