A serious collision happened at a rural intersection in Ypres on Tuesday afternoon. One of the cars carrying four seniors overturned and ended up on its roof in the canal.
The emergency services were called on Tuesday around 5 p.m. for a traffic accident at the intersection of Reninge and Kapellestraat in the countryside near the Ypres district of Boezinge. Two cars had crashed into each other. One of the cars overturned. The vehicle came to a stop on its roof in the canal of Reningestraat. (Read more below the photo)
The Westhoek fire brigade was called to rescue the fire. “But no one was trapped upon arrival,” says Kristof Louagie, spokesperson for the Westhoek Fire Department. “There were four seniors in the upside-down car. They all got out of the car.”
Local nuisance
An ambulance also arrived on the scene. “But no one had to take it.” The accident and subsequent towing work caused local traffic disruption for a while. The fire brigade provided signaling.
