After the culmination of the VIII Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Kingstown, the 33 member states renewed their support for the Total Peace process in Colombia and the dialogues with the National Liberation Army (ELN).

The Kingstown Declaration, a key document emanating from the summit, emphasizes the commitment to advance the search for peace in Colombia and other efforts to dialogue with armed actors.

Point 71 of the Declaration reiterates support for the peace process in Colombia and emphasizes commitment to dialogues with the ELN. In addition, the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, established at the Second CELAC Summit in 2014, is ratified, where they committed to resolving differences peacefully and keeping the region free of wars and militarization.

The document also calls for a humanitarian ceasefire. immediately in Gaza, in solidarity with the crisis in that region. The CELAC member countries urge the United Nations General Assembly to guarantee this ceasefire and comply with international law to protect civilians.

In addition, they express their concern about the situation in Palestine and Israel, calling for the release of hostages, the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza and support for the United Nations Near East Refugee Agency (UNRWA). The importance of recognizing two States as a political solution is highlighted, in accordance with UN resolutions.

During the Pro Tempore Presidency of Honduras in CELAC, the creation of a mechanism for monitoring the impact of the Gaza incursionin order to promote the recovery, security and development of Palestine, and move towards a just and lasting peace between the Israeli and Palestinian people.
