Chemnitz University of Technology (TUC) has received the “Shaping Diversity” certificate after successfully completing the diversity audit. Prof. Dr. Anja Strobel, Vice Rector for Research and University Development at TUC, and Prof. Dr. Maximilian Eibl, Vice Rector for Teaching and International Affairs at the TUC, accepted the award on March 6, 2024 from the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft e. V. in Berlin. The certificate certifies that the TUC sees the diversity of its students and employees as an opportunity and has found ways to use this potential for the university’s organizational development.

The certificate process extended over a period of two years, during which the university’s diversity strategy was further developed at the TUC within several working groups and in close cooperation with the Rectorate. The focus was on accompanying and supporting a cultural change at the TUC and promoting diversity and open, respectful and intercultural exchange within the university, urban society and beyond. Due to the high proportion of international students (around 32 percent in the 2023/2024 winter semester) and employees (around 13 percent), a particular focus of the TUC’s diversity strategy was on the international networking of the TUC and the cooperation between the university and urban society.

“Chemnitz University of Technology is a community in which diversity is a fundamental building block and core value that is of central importance in all areas of university life and enriches us,” says Prof. Dr. Anja Strobel. This is what, among other things, stands for: also the commitment of the Senate, the Rectorate and the University Council of Chemnitz University of Technology to tolerance, diversity and cosmopolitanism as well as the signing of the “Diversity Charter” last year.

“We offer people from all over the world a home and warmly welcome them. We welcome the diversity and cultural backgrounds of our international members and relatives. “Your contribution to the global perspective of our university is invaluable and promotes intercultural understanding and collaboration,” adds Prof. Dr. Maximilian Eibl added.

In addition to the certificate for a family-friendly university, which the TUC has already been awarded several times, the “Shaping Diversity” certificate sets another milestone for a diversity-conscious TUC.
