Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi strongly criticized the United States‘ “intention to incriminate China to an incredible extent” during his annual press conference on the sidelines of the National People’s Congress. Wang Yi warned that the Taiwan issue is “China’s internal affairs” and emphasized that countries condoning “Taiwan independence” will face consequences. He also accused the US of suppressing China and extending the list of unilateral sanctions.
Wang Yi discussed China-Russia relations, China-US relations, China-EU relations, the Gaza War, and the situation in Taiwan during the press conference. He announced a pilot visa-free policy for six countries and stressed the importance of cooperation between China, Russia, and the EU.
Responding to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s “table menu theory,” Wang Yi criticized the US for not fulfilling its commitments to China and accused Washington of seeking to suppress China. He emphasized the need for a new paradigm in major power relations and the importance of a multipolar world order.
Addressing the Taiwan election, Wang Yi stated that Taiwan’s election was “just a local election in China” and reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to peaceful reunification. He also commented on the Gaza war, calling for an immediate ceasefire and emphasizing the importance of implementing the “two-state solution” for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Overall, Wang Yi’s press conference highlighted China’s assertive stance on international issues and its efforts to strengthen relations with Russia, the EU, and other countries in the Global South.
