Cionel Pérez and Orioles reach an agreement for one year and avoid arbitration

The Baltimore Orioles made a significant move on Monday, as left-hander Cionel Pérez agreed to a $1.2 million, one-year contract to avoid arbitration. The deal also includes a team option for 2025, with potential bonuses that could bring his total earnings to $4.3 million over two seasons.

Pérez, a Cuban pitcher, had asked for $1.4 million in salary arbitration, while the Orioles had initially offered $1.1 million. However, the two sides were able to come to an agreement before the arbitration hearing, which is set to begin next week for 21 players, including outfielder Austin Hayes, first baseman Ryan O’Hearn, left-hander Danny Coulombe, and right-hander Jacob Webb.

Last season, Pérez posted a 3.54 ERA and recorded three saves in 65 relief appearances for the Orioles. He struck out 44 batters and walked 27 in 5 1/3 innings, showcasing his ability to be a reliable arm out of the bullpen.

With this new contract in place, Pérez will have the opportunity to earn additional bonuses based on performance, including ticket sales and completed matches. The team option for 2025 provides further stability for both Pérez and the Orioles, as they look ahead to the upcoming seasons.

This deal represents a significant move for the Orioles as they continue to build their roster for the future, and Pérez’s presence in the bullpen will be a key factor as they strive for success in the coming seasons.
