The city of Schwerin is taking action against the AfD and has terminated the rental agreement for an event in the Demmlersaal of the town hall. The right-wing extremist Götz Kubitschek was scheduled to appear there next Saturday at the invitation of the party’s young people, Junge Alternative.
Kubitschek is considered a pioneer of the right-wing extremist scene; he heads the so-called Institute for State Policy in Schnellroda in Saxony-Anhalt. In the Demmler Hall, the right-wing extremist wanted to talk about the so-called patriotic opposition – at the invitation of the Junge Alternative (JA), which has been classified as right-wing extremist by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. It should be about a “sober and at the same time ruthless look at the political situation”. Apparently the JA had disguised the lecture in its communication with the city of Schwerin.
Supposedly true purpose concealed
The AfD meeting was to take place in the traditional Demmlersaal in Schwerin town hall.
The JA state chairman Alexander Tschich is said to have led the city into believing that the event was a preparatory evening for the AfD district party conference that would take place a day later. He asked that the rental agreement be sent to the AfD state office in Neubrandenburg. The regional AfD is holding its party meeting this Sunday in the traditional Demmlersaal. The hall is open for party events. The city council normally meets there, but the city also gives the space to third parties. According to the terms of use, a party-political event aimed at an election campaign is not possible. When renting, the dignity of the house and the interests of the city of Schwerin must be protected.
City terminates rental agreement
It was only after an inquiry from NDR MV that the city became aware of Kubitschek’s planned appearance. The Junge Alternative advertises Kubitschek’s appearance on social media, but without disclosing the venue. She only reveals this internally. A spokeswoman for the city of Schwerin explained that Kubitschek’s appearance was out of the question. This is not compatible with the requirements that apply to the rental of the hall. “We had confidence that no high-profile right-wing extremist speakers would appear. However, with the announcement of Mr. Kubitschek as a speaker, this confidence has been destroyed,” the city said upon request. The city’s legal office terminated the rental agreement.
YES contradicts the representation of the city
The JA state chairman Tschich explained that he had not concealed from the city that it was an event of his organization, nor had he given the impression that it was a preparatory evening for the AfD district party conference. The board member of the Junge Alternative, state parliament member Jan-Phillip Tadsen, announced legal action against the city.
