Two shootings occurred in Brussels on the night from Saturday to Sunday. A 29-year-old man was killed in Laeken, and in Sint-Joost-ten-Noode the 28-year-old victim is still fighting for his life. The perpetrator(s) are still on the run.

The police received a call for gunshots in Steylsstraat in Laeken at 11:50 p.m., after which several patrols were sent out. A seriously injured 29-year-old man was found at the scene. The officers tried to resuscitate the man, but the victim died at 12:20 am.

A witness who wishes to remain anonymous says he heard shouting in the street around 11 p.m. “They shouted ‘fils de pute’ (son of a whore, ed.) several times and afterwards I heard petards. Afterwards I saw a man lying on the ground. I saw four young guys walking away. They fled on foot.”

The perpetrator or perpetrators of that first shooting are still on the run for the time being. A safety zone has been established and police presence in the neighborhood has been increased to reassure the population, it said. The investigation is ongoing.

A shooting also occurred in Sint-Joost-ten-Noode last night. “Around 3 o’clock, police inspectors from the Brussels North Police heard gunshots,” says spokesperson Audrey Dereymaeker. “They immediately went to the scene of the shot in Plantesstraat and found a victim on the spot with a gunshot wound, to whom they provided first aid.”

According to police, the victim, a 28-year-old man, was in very critical condition and died in hospital. The public prosecutor’s office contradicts the latter and reports that he is in a critical condition in hospital. According to our information, the man has been declared brain dead and his condition is therefore very worrying.

“At this time there are no indications that the two events are related,” the prosecutor’s office said. “The two investigations are actively continuing to identify the perpetrator(s) and determine the precise circumstances.”
