China Prepares for Record High Number of Air Passengers During 2024 Spring Festival

The Civil Aviation Administration of China has announced that the 2024 Spring Festival Transport will begin on January 26 and end on March 5, lasting a total of 40 days. During this time, it is predicted that the number of civil aviation passengers will reach 80 million, with an average of 2 million passengers per day, setting a record high.

Peak passenger volume is expected on February 8, February 16, February 20, and February 25. The domestic market is expected to see increased flow of civil aviation passengers due to the start of school during staggered holidays, returning home and work, and increased travel. This year, the extended Spring Festival holiday will lead to a popular travel trend of “visiting relatives + traveling.” Popular routes are expected to be concentrated between major urban agglomerations such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, the Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, Chengdu, and Chongqing. Additionally, there will be a significant increase in tourists from southern tourist cities as well as ice and snow tourist cities.

Internationally, the outbound travel market is expected to experience a short-term peak season during the Spring Festival, with a small peak in the number of international flights on certain days before and after the festival. Neighboring countries such as Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia will be travel hotspots, and there will also be an increase in demand for international family visits and study abroad trips.
