Padrin: “Modular project, the only viable solution to avoid the isolation of the valley”
SAINT STEPHEN. In view of the works on the Comelico tunnel, with a strong impact on the roads entering and exiting the valley, the recovery of the old “dla Val” road is a priority, and therefore the need to accelerate the preliminary design. In this sense, a Province-Municipalities-Montana Union agreement will be signed to advance and finance the project. This is what emerged today, in Santo Stefano, in the discussion table between the President of the Province, Robert Padrin, local administrators and a representation of civic committees. On the table, the question of the Comelico gallery and the intervention planned by Anas. They were present at the meeting Giancarlo Ianese (mayor of San Nicolò and president of the Montana Union), Marco Staunovo from Poland (Comelico Superiore), Mirco Menia (Deputy Mayor Danta), Manuel Casanova-Consier (Saint Peter), Elisa Bergagnin e Walter D’Ambros (deputy mayor and councilor Santo Stefano), e Alfredo Comis (representing the local committees).
«Anas has shown openness to the recovery of the old road, which at this point becomes the most viable solution to avoid the isolation of the Comelico during the works on the tunnel. Isolation that we cannot afford, as it would make the depopulation already underway for years dramatic, ”says Padrin. «In this sense, it is essential to accelerate the design in order to entrust the assignment as soon as possible. We have decided to sign an agreement between the Province, the Mountain Union and the Municipalities concerned; then we will see, if necessary, possible changes of ownership for the management of the road, which today belongs to the Municipalities ».
“The safety of the slope must also be included in the recovery operation of the old road, in order to have the maximum guarantee of transitability” adds the president of the Montana Union Giancarlo Ianese. «A modular design would make it possible to proceed with a gradual advancement both of the recovery of the road and of the tunnel construction site. In addition, it will guarantee a valid alternative even when Anas’s works on the tunnel are completed ».
The table will be updated in the coming weeks, in the meantime the bureaucratic procedure for the agreement will be started. “The Province is at the disposal of the territory, aware of the importance of the issue” concludes President Padrin. “The liveability of the high lands and the mountains cannot be separated from safe, fast and efficient connections”.
