The Special Commission of the Legislative Assembly that investigated former officials of the Arena and FMLN governments who allegedly received bonuses, released its final report this Thursday, and detailed that the document will be delivered to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR). to proceed judicially against those involved.

The testimonies of the former officials who were summoned to the legislative table served as proof that, during the governments of Arena and the leftist party, it was common to deliver extra payments that were not declared to the public treasury.

In the report, it is detailed that the commission cited people who had a direct or indirect relationship with the bonuses: Alfredo Cristianipresident of El Salvador in the period 1989-1994, for the ARENA party; Elías Antonio Sacapresident of El Salvador in the period 2004-2009; Ana Vilma de Escobarformer vice-president; Eugenio Girlsas Secretary of Communications in the period from 2015 to 2018 during the management of the FMLN, among others.

The president of the commission, deputy Jorge Castro, said that in previous governments there were three ways of operating. “One was in the Executive Branch, which they called ‘salary leveling’; however, it must be made clear that there is already a Salary Law that determines how much each official should earn,” he said.

William Soriano, stated that “The report showed that those mentioned received monthly bank deposits without justification of origin. State funds ended up in the pockets of corrupt former officials. “This money should have been used in works that benefit Salvadorans.”.

This compensation mechanism began its operation from the presidential period of Arena, with Alfredo Cristiani, and remained this way until that of the FMLN, with Salvador Sánchez Cerén, the report states.
