CONEGLIANO. Starting today, the electric impulse weapon called “taser” has also been assigned to personnel of the Conegliano Police Station, with a view to strengthening and modernizing the equipment in use by the state police.

It is a weapon that allows you to temporarily disable the motor functions of the subject drawn by involuntary contraction of the muscles. The device, already in use in Treviso since May 9, will allow police operators engaged in the daily control of the territory to perform their institutional tasks with greater safety, thanks to the operational qualities and deterrent capabilities of the device.

“The police operator, in fact, based on the specific training received and assessed the operational scenario, will be able to use it according to the criteria of adequacy and proportionality, in the limited cases in which it is necessary to obtain physical control of a subject who puts in place a significant threat, in order to render him harmless, thus also safeguarding his own physical safety – explains the police – The experiment has also shown that even the mere intimation to use the device by the police operator and his immediate visibility produces a deterrent effect on the subject who poses the threat. Therefore, it represents an important prevention tool to further safeguard public safety ».
