CAVA DE ‘TIRRENI – The monastic community of the Benedictine Abbey of the Holy Trinity of Cava de’ Tirreni is forced, due to Covid 19, to say goodbye to another illustrious member. In fact, late yesterday morning, Dom Luigi Farrugia passed away in his monastery lodgings at the age of 85. The death occurred as a result of the respiratory and cardiac complications caused by the Covid 19 infection that the Benedictine monk had contracted in recent days, on the sidelines of the outbreak that occurred at the Abbey and which had affected at least six monks.
Dom Luigi had been fighting for days against Covid from his monastic accommodation considering that, despite the symptoms of the infection, his conditions had not made hospitalization necessary. However yesterday the situation suddenly became complicated and Fr Luigi Ferrugia died before being transferred to the hospital. Originally from Malta, historical memory of the Abbey and responsible for the sacristy of the Benedictine monastery in Cavese, Don Luigi had chosen the monastic life from an early age and in July last year he celebrated the 50th year of his profession. And it was the monastic community of the Benedictine Abbey of the Holy Trinity that announced the death of Don Luigi yesterday.
