by admin

ROME. The new vaccinated against Covid-19 are still dropping (-39.6%). In fact, the number of administrations (1,066,374) decreased by 5.1% in the last week, with a 7-day moving average of 134,604 doses per day. This is evidenced by the independent monitoring of the Gimbe Foundation for the week 27 October-2 November. As for the newly vaccinated, after reaching 440 thousand in the week 11-17 October, their number in the last two weeks, Gimbe underlines, dropped first to 239 thousand (-45.7%) and then just above 144 thousand (-39 , 6%). New vaccinates drop to about 20,000 a day. In the same monitoring, the Foundation notes that new cases of Covid-19 are still increasing in Italy (+ 16.6%) and hospitalizations (+ 14.9%) and the trend of intensive care is reversed (+ 12.9%) . In the week 27 October-2 November, compared to the previous one, a further increase in new weekly cases is observed: from 25,585 to 29,841. The increase is also reflected in hospitals: hospitalizations in the medical area (+388) and in intensive care (+44) are increasing. Deaths are stable (257 vs 249). At the national level, the employment rate remains very low (5% in the medical area and 4% in intensive care).

At least one dose of the vaccine
As of November 3, according to Gimbe monitoring, 78.7% of the population (n. 46,656,290) received at least one dose of vaccine (+130,795 compared to the previous week) and 75.7% (n. 44,864,608 ) has completed the vaccination cycle (+357.441). Of the 144,258 newly vaccinated in the week 25-31 October, 76.2% belong to age groups that include people of working age. With respect to the people still to be vaccinated, the Foundation notes, the over 2.7 million over 50s at high risk of serious illness and hospitalization and the over 1.3 million in the 12-19 age group who reduce safety in schools are particularly worrying. Vaccination coverage with at least one dose of vaccine is also highly variable in the different age groups: from 97.1% of the over 80s to 73.5% of the 12-19 age group.

In general, compared to the previous week, the increases are increasingly modest: the number of vaccinated with at least one dose increases by 0.6% in the age range 12-19, by 0.4% in the age range 20-29 and 30- 39, 0.3% in the 40-49 range, 0.2% in the 50-59 range, while in the over 60s the increase does not exceed 0.1%. Finally, with regard to vaccine supplies, 99,784,168 doses were delivered as of November 3: “In the absence of new supplies, for the third consecutive week the stocks of mRNA vaccines are reduced, reaching 9.9 million doses. The need to accelerate the administration of third doses and the progressive extension of the audience of candidates for the booster dose – explains Gimbe – require a substantial number of doses: for this reason it is essential to know the supply plan for the next months, of which at the moment there are no there are official data “.

The effectiveness of vaccines
The GImbe Foundation then notes that the first signs of “reduction in the effectiveness of the vaccine on serious Covid-19 disease” are observed in the over 60s. Which underlines the need to accelerate with the third doses, estimating that by the end of the year the recall will involve almost 12 million people. In the over 60s, we read in the monitoring, “the effectiveness of the vaccine on serious disease is confirmed to be very high, but in a slight and progressive decrease”. In fact, based on a Gimbe elaboration of data from the Integrated Covid-19 Surveillance Report of the Higher Institute of Health, it is highlighted that for the over 80 age group the effectiveness of vaccines compared to admissions to intensive care has dropped from 95.9 % of the period 4 April-11 July to 90.4% of the period 5 July-24 October. For hospitalizations in the medical area, on the other hand, the effectiveness of vaccines for the same age group increased for the same reference period from 94.2% to 88.9%. For the 60-79 age group, on the other hand, the effectiveness of vaccines compared to hospitalizations in the medical area has gone (again for the same reference periods) from 95.2% to 91.6% and for intensive care since 98, 2% to 94.8%. This is, explains the president of the Foundation, Nino Cartabellotta, “a slow decline in effectiveness but which explains, together with the growing spread of the new delta and delta plus variant, the increase in hospitalizations for these age groups and the need for proceed quickly with the third booster doses “.

The situation in Sardinia
In particular, the epidemiological curve in Sardinia dates back. There is a worsening for currently positive cases per 100 thousand inhabitants (84) and there is an increase in new cases (71.5%) compared to the previous week. The beds in the medical area (3%) and in intensive care (3%) occupied by Covid-19 patients, on the other hand, remain below the saturation threshold.
