Covid, four other regions return to yellow from Monday. White Lombardy at the end of February

With the steady decline in hospitalizations, the color orange is about to be filed away. Hopefully definitely. No Italian region records more numbers from the orange zone (which is triggered when the occupancy rate of the ordinary wards exceeds 30% and that of the intensive care units 20%). To “climb” in yellow, however, you need 14 days in a lower scenario. From Monday 21 February another four will be “promoted”: Piedmont, Val d’Aosta, Abruzzo and Marche. This was established by an order by the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza. If the current trend continues, the last region in orange (Friuli Venezia Giulia) starts to move into the yellow zone at the end of February. While on February 28, Lombardy, Veneto and Campania should return to the white zone.

Towards the stop of the colors of the regions

All this, provided that the government does not decide before abolishing the color bands, since now the activities allowed with green pass and without green certificate are almost identical regardless of the color of the region (see updated table on the Palazzo Chigi website) .

Piedmont, Valle d’Aosta, Abruzzo and Marche in yellow from Monday

Based on the weekly monitoring of the ISS, the control room has therefore decided the return of Piedmont, Valle d’Aosta, Abruzzo and Marche in the yellow zone from Monday 21 February, thanks to 14 consecutive days of intensive care permanently below the critical threshold. 20% (in the case of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta we are also below the 30% threshold as regards hospitalizations in ordinary wards). In the case of the Marche, the days with yellow zone numbers are actually only six for now. But by law it is always a fact that the «control room believes
a shorter period is appropriate for the color change.

Lombardy and Veneto towards the white zone from 28 February

Furthermore, the improving picture on the hospitalization front brings the return to the white zone of Veneto, Lombardy and Campania closer. All three regions have in fact had “white” numbers since Friday 11 February, with the intensive care occupancy rate below the critical threshold of 10% (respectively 6%, 8.7% and 8%), while the ordinary wards in the case of Veneto they are also below the 15% threshold (14.7 per cent).

If we look in particular at Lombardy and Veneto, according to the Agenas (National Agency for National Health Services), hospitalizations of Covid patients have collapsed in the last month. In Lombardy they have halved in ordinary departments: in fact they went from 3,649 on January 17 to 1,649 on February 17 (-55%). A slightly more contained decline (-41%) when looking at intensive care. Here, on the other hand, the decline was 67% in Veneto, where in the same period of time it went from 183 to 60 hospitalizations (with a decline of 43% in the ordinary wards).
