Cuorgnè, an inclusion project between the Municipality and the Ciss 38 It has given back a space to the community and helped the most vulnerable
HEART. Two years ago, the first social garden in the city was born in Cuorgnè. Located inside what was the Giusto Morgando boarding school in 1896, it stands in the area that housed an old pigsty run by the nuns and which is in the historical memory of the Canavese people as a meeting place for many young people. Submerged among the brambles and scrubs that arose as a result of decades of neglect, the space adjacent to the playgrounds in the former Salesians has come back to life thanks to the synergy between the Municipality and the Ciss 38.
«The first stage of this ambitious project, with the collaboration of the Community Foundation of the Canavese, has allowed the first processing of the green area – confides the city councilor Sabrina Mannarino -. The objective, in fact, was twofold: to return places to the community through the reactivation and enhancement of people with social fragility caused by the economic crisis. Thus, with the precious collaboration of the Se.Mi Onlus association and the involvement of two citizens followed and supported by the social service, an aesthetic garden was created, organized according to the principles of synergistic cultivation ».
The flower beds have drawn a recognizable motif on the ground, making the space look like a garden where horticultural plants have been accompanied by flowers and plants useful for attracting a vast pollinating entonofauna, contrasting with many pathogenic insects. This is how artichokes, tomatoes, chillies, small pumpkins, salad, mint, cucumbers were born. An explosion of colors and goodness that have replaced the greyness of the brambles.
«From a regenerative welfare point of view, part of the fruits of the social garden have been destined to San Vincenzo for the food support of families in economic and social difficulties – adds Mannarino -. The planning of the social garden garden has now been included in the co-planning actions in support of parenting and families promoted by the main social actors of the area. Removed the straw that covered the vegetable garden in the winter months to better preserve the land to be re-cultivated in the following spring, “dall’Orto con traspOrto” was born, a project of the Andirivieni Social Cooperative. The cultivation of the social garden is carried out today by the children of the Metafora day center who take care of it. The cultivation of natural products, therefore, is accompanied by the aggregative purpose and the opportunity to reflect and rethink the world of disability. We do not know what this green space returned to the community will become tomorrow, but one thing is certain: anyone who approaches the social garden will always have the opportunity to get back into the game in a concrete way, as the fruits that are collected are concrete, and feel part of a community “.c.c.
