Due to an error in the webshop, a Mexican man was able to buy Cartier earrings for only 13 instead of 13,000 euros. The French luxury brand is refusing to send the jewelry for the time being.

Rogelio Villarreal was scrolling through the official webshop of French luxury brand Cartier, when he suddenly saw very cheap earrings. The gold earrings with diamonds were for sale for only 237 pesos, about 13 euros. Strange, because the earrings normally cost 237,000 pesos, about 13,000 euros. There was no doubt about it: someone had accidentally left out three zeros when registering the product on the website. Rogelio couldn’t believe his eyes and ordered not one, but two pairs of low-priced earrings. (Read more below the photo)

The earrings were priced at 237 euros instead of 237,000.

When Cartier noticed the mistake, it decided not to send the lucky guy the earrings, but to send him a letter. In it, in exchange for the jewelry, it promises a bottle of Cartier Cuvée Champagne and a Cartier passport holder, each worth several hundred euros. But Rogelio decided to reject that offer.

He used the letter as evidence to go to Profeco, a Mexican government agency responsible for consumer protection. According to the authority, Cartier must indeed supply the earrings for the price for which Rogelio purchased them.

Opinions about Rogelio’s purchase are divided. Some believe he took advantage of human error, others support the lucky guy and think Cartier should send the earrings. “I just seized the opportunity and even ordered two pairs of earrings. Call me greedy, but I doubt you would pass up the opportunity,” Rogelio said on X.
