Draghi-Modi: telephone conversation on Afghanistan and Libya

First of all, two themes: Afghanistan also at the height of what happened yesterday, but also in Libya. Prime Minister Mario Draghi addressed the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, on these issues. A 45-minute interview in which the relevant priorities were listed also in light of what will be the next G20. During this morning’s meeting at Palazzo Chigi in which the latest developments in Afghanistan were discussed, they “addressed the role of the various international forums, including the G20, to discuss the prospects for resolving the crisis in the Asian country”. Particularly with regard to the crux of the issues for Afghanistan, and among these, that of facing the humanitarian emergency in progress and of ensuring respect for human rights, especially of women ”. Hence, the LIbia node, where there is the “need to continue with the political dialogue promoted in Geneva by the United Nations also in view of the elections at the end of December and the need for a rapid withdrawal of foreign forces from the country”. After the meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister, the Italian Prime Minister heard the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, by telephone. The discussion focused on the developments of the Afghan crisis and its implications at the regional level. The meeting also discussed the collaboration between the two countries in the framework of the Italian Presidency of the G20, as well as the state and prospects for bilateral cooperation.
