Eat or pay for electricity?

The crisis that millions of Colombians on the Caribbean Coast are experiencing today due to the high costs of energy rates, which led a few days ago to a summit between the Caribbean bench of Congress and President Gustavo Petro to seek solutions to a problem they have been facing for years. decades, there are still no effective formulas to solve the root issue.

Although, during the meeting the President proposed accelerating the energy transformation with clean energy to lower costs; seek a change in the tariff formula in the CREG and lower the price per kilowatt, all of these measures are medium, but at no time did it present alternatives that would lower the current price.

This is not a minor issue, since I arrived at the House of Representatives I have been trying to find a definitive solution to the payment of energy rates that became so calamitous that the people of the Caribbean region no longer know whether to “eat or pay the bill.” light”.

Just look at what happens to a shopkeeper or a housewife who has to keep her appliances, a refrigerator, a fan, on 24 hours a day so that her products and food do not get damaged and every time, they see how their receipts arrive with figures. astronomical as happens in strata 1, 2 and 3, where the values of the bills exceed $400,000 per month, which can even be above the payment for the service in stratum 6 in cities like Bogotá.

That is why from the Caribbean bench we are asking the Government for concrete and immediate actions. It is worrying that 25% of the Colombian population, which is the one that lives in the Caribbean, has to pay the highest value per kilowatt in the country, which today exceeds $1,000, and even more so in the case of Córdoba where we are energy generators with the Urrá hydroelectric plant, where we are producing what we consume and even with that, our access to energy is not guaranteed.
