Loja character aspires to be a chronicler of Loja.
The Board of Directors of the Lojana Association residents in the city of Quito resolved—unanimously—to propose to the Municipality of Loja, the name of Dr. Efraín Mariano Borrero Espinosa, to be designated Chronicler of Loja, due to the attributes and qualities that the professional has. lojano
As is known, he is a Loja native who loves his land, who, once retired, decided to dedicate himself full time to writing his experiences, telling anecdotes, describing characters and recounting historical events of our Loja of yesteryear.
Essence
For three years—uninterruptedly—he has been telling his stories, every Friday, on the Meridiano program on Radio Centinela del Sur/La Hechicera; same ones that are also published in Diario Crónica.
Efraín Borrero told, exclusively to Diario Crónica, that his writings are the result of a research task with necessary and reliable historical sources to establish verisimilitude; all aimed at letting people know the daily life of what happened years ago.
“I always start from a premise: to write for everyone, that is, with simple language that arouses the interest of the people of Loja and citizens in general,” he said.
He noted that to obtain the information he looks for various inputs such as personal experiences, closeness to the character, family members (wife and children), texts and searches the internet, “this activity is very complete” and each story takes a week.
His works, which translate into contributions to the history of Loja, have earned him his incorporation into the National Academic of History Loja Chapter.
Actions
During his life, he has pursued countless actions in favor of citizens, but three stand out:
On December 8, 1995, the first Exhibition Fair of the Mining Industry of Ecuador – Expomineria 95 was held in the city of Loja. National and international companies arrived. Encouraged by Dr. Lautaro Loaiza and other important figures, in 1998, he took steps in the Capital of the Republic for the National State Railway Company (ENFE) to donate to the city a heritage train that would perpetuate the frustrated dream of los lojanos, an element that is currently in the Jipiro Recreational Park. As advisor to Governor Vinicio Suárez Bermeo, he played a leading role in the acquisition of the property owned by the heirs of Dr. Julio César Ojeda, located in the Central part of Loja for the operation of the Government of the province of Loja, in the years 90.
Efraín Borrero added that being a chronicler is an honorary function given by the entity – where it provides services to citizens -, in this case the Municipality of Loja; However, whether or not the submitted request is accepted, he will continue to “draw” the Loja of yesteryear with his “pen and ink.” (YO)
