The ash cloud forced the Sac to close part of the airspace. Overflow of lava from the South East Crater
An intense Strombolian activity was detected by the Ingv of Catania from the south-east crater of Etna with the emission of an eruptive cloud that disperses towards the south-east. There is also a lava overflow from the southern flank of the South-East crater which spreads in a southwest direction. The phenomena are not observable due to bad weather. The Sac, the company that manages the Catania airport, has announced that, due to the new eruptive phase, the crisis unit has ordered the closure of a sector of the airspace until 9 am tomorrow. The arrival of three aircraft will be allowed every hour, a procedure that will cause inevitable delays in both departing and arriving flights.
