Exemption from the vaccine, here’s who can really get it (giving up the green pass)

by admin

Since the green pass obligation has begun, doctors have to face a significant side effect: the enormous amount of requests for exemption from the vaccine. But the real contraindications to the anti-Covid-19 vaccination are few and precise. To provide a compass to doctors appointed to grant exemption from the anti-Covid vaccine, the Association of Interdisciplinary Scientific Society and of Family and Community Medicine (Assimefac) has drawn up a vademecum.

Breastfeeding and food allergies

Assimefac, says the president Nunzia Pia Placentino, considered it important to summarize the ministerial circulars in easy explanatory tables, exhaustive but not easy to consult in daily clinical practice. In all cases it is up to the doctor, in fact, to ascertain the presence or absence of contraindications or precautions or reasons for temporary delay of the anti Sars-CoV-2 vaccination. The guide debunks those that are not true contraindications to the vaccine: from breastfeeding to common allergies (allergies to food, pets, latex, pollen, oral drugs), then allergic reactions not related to vaccines and / or injectable drugs. The vaccine is also falsely contraindicated for those suffering from autoimmune diseases and for cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy and immunocompromised.

Precautions in case of myocarditis and pericarditis

In case of myocarditis – pericarditis arising following the administration of an mRna vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna), the precaution should be taken to send the patient to carry out a cardiological consultation; the use of another type of vaccine may be considered for the completion of the vaccination process. Furthermore, in the event of an immediate allergic reaction occurring after another vaccine, the precaution should be taken to assess the type and severity of the reaction and refer the patient to a suitable specialist. Finally, even in the case of pregnancy, even if the vaccine is not contraindicated, the precaution of a consultation with a specialist can be considered.

Vaccine contraindicated in case of thrombotic syndrome

But what are the real contraindications that justify an exemption? In addition to allergies to certain specific chemicals, contraindications concern those who have had a thrombotic syndrome associated with thrombocytopenia, a capillary leak syndrome, Guillain-Barrè syndrome or a severe allergic reaction after the first dose of one of the vaccines.

Vaccine to be postponed in case of ongoing infection or quarantine

The referral to the vaccine, on the other hand, can be attributed to those who are infected with Sars-CoV-2 or in quarantine. The guide also recommends physicians to explain to patients who obtain vaccination waiver certification that vaccination does not qualify for the Green-Pass.
