Crosato is 19 years old and today he plays for Kioene. “What a push after the Europeans, we didn’t want to be outdone: the pressure was felt”

TREVISO. He had been world champion at the U18 world championships in Tunisia, on Sunday he became world champion for the second time, in Cagliari, at the U21 world championships, together with his lifelong friend, Paolo Porro. Federico Crosato, born in Treviso on 22 May 2002, grew up in Volley Treviso and plays in Superlega at Kioene Padova. Central, just over two meters high, Crosato scored 6 points in the final against Russia, which ended 3-0. It was a sort of revenge of the world championship two years ago. They both showed up with more or less the same group. It was a triumphal ride.

How much difference is there between the world championship won in Cagliari and the one won two years ago?

«Huge, because volleyball was played upwards, from a technical point of view. The first world championship, in 2019, I experienced it as a freshman at the first top competition, and not like this year’s world championship. In Cagliari, the competition was unique, I started out and represented my country, winning it with a little pressure from outside, which we felt. Also a positive fact. Then we had all eyes on us as the senior teams had won the European Championship and there was the triumph of the girls in the U20 World Cup. We didn’t want to be outdone. We were good at transforming pressure into aggression and the will to win. We have been good. I prefer this year’s gold ».

Where will you play this year and with what prospects?

«I will play in Padua and I attended the first training session a few days ago. I have the prospect of growing in some fundamentals. By playing at a high level, I think I am improving. I want to improve. I really like the destination of Padua and I want to carve out some space on the pitch ».

What do you miss about Treviso and what memories do you have of your city?

“I miss his daily life: school, the city center, the gym, friends, family. Honestly, however, I don’t miss Treviso at all, that’s it. I will miss him very much, I know. But I’m close to home, I’m in Padua. I know I have good memories of my city. I’m glad I left and changed my place of birth. A change of scenery will only make me grow ».

Is Italy ripe to win the Olympics in three years?

“I’ve thought about it for a while, given the summer we can’t hide. This year at the European Championships we have shown that we can compete with the best. In France they will assert themselves in the five circles review ».
