Several municipal councils in the DRC are already being set up, in the towns where the councilor elections took place on December 20. The existence of these councils will be a first in the DRC and will strengthen the country’s governance at the provincial, municipal and local levels, according to the law.
Regarding the exact role of municipal councilors in the governance of the country and what these councils will contribute to improving the quality of governance and especially the development of the country, some experts provide certain guidelines.
For the national deputy and law professor, Gary Sakata, the councils will ensure control of the management of the country at the base in order to bring the local executive to provide developmental solutions without waiting for central power.
