The forest fire that occurred on March 31 in the municipality of Unguía, in the Lago Azul los Manatíes Regional Integrated Management District, has already been controlled, and at this moment all the lights are off.

After hours of work in the field and thanks to the inter-institutional coordination with the Municipal Mayor’s Office, the Risk Management Office, the Cocomaunguía Community Council, the fire department of the municipalities of Unguía, Acandí and Riosucio, National Parks and the community, the The flames were controlled, preventing it from continuing to affect the forested area of ​​the area.

At this time, an interdisciplinary team made up of the aforementioned entities continues in the field, monitoring through drone flights and tours of the affected area, verifying that the flames are not activated by strong breezes and weather conditions.

Currently, IDEAM reports an alert for forest fires in the municipalities of Acandí (orange alert), Unguía, (red alert), Riosucio and Nuevo Belén de Bajirá, (yellow alert), for which the contingency plans will remain active until the risk decrease and prevent new sources of fire in the area.

Codechocó, through its technical team, is carrying out the environmental evaluation on the ground to determine the final data on the impact on both flora and fauna.
