Shanxi Province Official Expelled from Party and Dismissed from Office

On February 29, Shang Liguang, the former deputy secretary of Shanxi Province and former secretary of the Political and Legal Committee, faced expulsion from the party and dismissal from public office. This decision was made by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, citing serious violations of disciplines and laws.

Shang Liguang, who previously served as the secretary of Zhao Kezhi, the then secretary of the Hebei Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, was accused of various offenses. These included hiding personal information, engaging in corrupt activities such as power, sex, and money transactions, and misusing public power for personal gain. He was also accused of facilitating others in business operations, project contracting, and job adjustments for personal profit.

The investigation into Shang Liguang began on September 5 last year, leading to his expulsion from the party and removal from public office. Despite his promotion to deputy secretary of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee in October 2021, he was found guilty of serious offenses.

It was also reported that Shang Liguang had a history of following Jiang Zemin’s clique and participating in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. He was specifically named as being responsible for the persecution of several individuals in Taiyuan, Shanxi. Overseas sources also indicate his involvement in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Hebei Province.

The expulsion of Shang Liguang from the party and removal from public office marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and uphold party discipline. His case serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating laws and engaging in corrupt activities within the party ranks.
