Celebrated for the 20th time Düsseldorf Japan Day: The festival, which attracts more than half a million people to Düsseldorf city center every year, goes back to an initiative of the Japanese community in the city.
Many Japanese companies chose the state capital as their headquarters after the end of the Second World War, and thousands of Japanese have been living here for decades. With Japan Day in 2002, they thanked the people of Düsseldorf for their hospitality for the first time.

From a friendship party to a mega event
In the meantime, the friendship festival has become a mega event that is known far beyond the city limits. Many thousands of visitors came to the state capital again on Saturday. Everything that has to do with Japanese culture was offered.
The hotspot of Japan Day was the entire right bank of the Rhine at downtown level. There were samurai and judo shows, Japanese food, Japanese antiques stalls, Japanese drummer shows and comic drawing workshops.
Cosplayers displayed creative comic costumes
It is also the fans of Japanese comic films, the so-called animes, who make Japan Day a special attraction. Thousands of these so-called cosplayers met again on the banks of the Rhine in Düsseldorf, colorfully and creatively disguised as their comic heroes.
