Within the historical framework, Garzón, once the diocesan capital of the Department, celebrates its 241 years of founding, or what, in popular slang, is the birthday date of our municipality, having like this the January 17, 1783 and founded by Francisco Manrique.
Now starting this period of 2024, we have a Municipal Mayor, and he is a young man who has been determined to serve our municipality in the best way. We hope that he knows how to surround himself with true leaders who represent the community in their public functions and that the transparency of His actions allow us to hope that in the future there will be no investigations that result against him or against those who are part of his cabinet, whether criminal, disciplinary or fiscal due to his management, and that in the end, these will result several years later. of leaving office, as they appear from one moment to the next, due to the failure of the entities to control the successes or failures of those in other administrations, and to tell the truth, the story is sad and it is necessary that there be a serious administration, without stain in his transition towards the dream of social service, because if memory serves, in the last twenty years that we have been in, no one is saved.
The friends of our population pride themselves on showing images and recognizing the environment, the natural resources, the importance of their religious works, but they forget the sense of recognition of what is ours, of spirituality and of everything that enriches the cultural and folkloric aroma of the region, where there are examples worthy of rescuing in every sense, and that is overlooked, with the sole purpose of offering the community, what we have called “bread and circuses”, as in the times of the history of the Romans.
It is necessary that we take into account that this year, 2024, we will celebrate the first hundred years of the publication of the work of someone who, due to some circumstances, was linked, whether temporarily or familiarly, with our municipality, referring to the appearance of “ La Vorágine”, as the epic novel of Colombians and the generalized violence that is perpetuated over the years in our republic of the Sacred Heart, which for some, is the history of violence and the bleeding heart of the country.
And in our municipality, even if it is late and after ten years of his death, we must rescue the memory of an illustrious poet from Garzone: Luis Ernesto Luna Suarez, born in December 1924, who stood out for his literary work and He gave us in the best way that call to literature and to the social and human feeling that he always carried in his heart, until the last moments of his life.
For those who are unaware of the work of our famous poet, Luis Ernesto Luna Suarez, we want to remind you that he was born on November 22, 1924 in Garzón Huila and died in Neiva on January 14, 2010, that is fourteen years ago, being baptized in the parish of the Cathedral and buried in the city of Neiva.
From this window, we call to surround the Municipal Administration in order to rescue what is ours, to all work together for a better tomorrow and recognize the effort of art and literature and culture in general that is experienced in our land, to rescue the human sensitivity that we all carry within us and generate a spiritual inheritance that we so need in these moments of hatred and resentment.
