Gleaner from Sapri, Senator M5S Castiello: “Whoever criticizes the statue does not know the body of southern women”

Freedom of artistic expression or defense of the image of women? The new statue of the Gleaner of Sapri inaugurated in recent days in the Cilento municipality has sparked the debate among those who believe that the work, excessively sexualized in the design of the female body, offends the protagonist of the famous Risorgimento poem by Luigi Mercantini and consequently all women (in addition to not adhering to the historical context in which the character is described) and whoever finds it an example of free artistic expression and, indeed, condemns those who in defending the woman’s body right on the woman’s body linger.
