The Guangxi “March 3rd” Festival Goes International, Showcasing Intangible Cultural Heritage

Nanning, April 11th: The Guangxi “March 3rd” festival has become an international affair, attracting Chinese and foreign tourists to immerse themselves in the region’s rich intangible cultural heritage.

The “March 3rd” festival, celebrated on the third day of the third month of the lunar calendar, was marked by a sea of singing and dancing in Zhuang Township, Guangxi. Visitors from around the world had the opportunity to experience the unique Zhuang culture through song fairs, intangible cultural heritage displays, and folk customs.

The 2024 “Guangxi March 3rd Bagui Carnival” cultural tourism event kicked off at the Nanning Qingxiu Mountain Scenic Area, drawing people dressed in national costumes from all corners to participate in the celebration of folk culture.

The event featured five intangible cultural heritage villages showcasing the charm of Guangxi’s traditions through interactive experiences. Visitors could witness over 30 intangible cultural heritage items, such as folk songs and ethnic dances, providing a comprehensive experience of Guangxi’s cultural heritage.

Shen Huiming, a visitor from Hubei Province, expressed his fascination with Guangxi’s ethnic customs and festival atmosphere, planning to explore the region for 15 days.

The “March 3rd” festival also served as a platform for cultural exchanges, with performances from various provinces and regions showcasing their intangible cultural heritage. International guests, including Rendi from Indonesia, presented their country’s cultural heritage, fostering artistic exchanges between nations.

In addition to the festivities in Nanning, other cities in Guangxi, such as Baise, Guigang, and Laibin, organized activities to attract tourists and promote cultural exchanges. Border towns like Chongzuo City saw visitors from China and Vietnam celebrating together, strengthening ties between the two nations.

The “March 3rd” celebrations in Guangxi will continue for a month, highlighting the region’s blend of tradition and modernity through events like the “Folk Song Street” in Nanning. With the fusion of electronic music and folk songs, Guangxi’s cultural heritage shines brightly at the “Guangxi March 3rd Bagui Carnival.”
