“This scene is built in two long sequence shots: one to cover the entrance to the border and the second to cover the scene of the violence of the border police against migrants”, explains in the video Haider Rashid, director of Europe.

The film tells the story of Kamal, a young Iraqi who embarks on a journey on foot to try to enter the European continent via the Balkan route. To succeed in his feat, the boy must cross the border between Turkey and Bulgaria, but he is captured. After managing to escape, the young man takes refuge in a forest, where his life turns into a struggle for survival.

Europe, in Italian cinemas from 2 September, it was awarded in Cannes in the Quinzaine des réalisateurs 2021 section with the Beatrice Sartori Award.

Haider Rashid is an Iraqi-Italian director. His latest work is No borders (2016) with Elio Germano, the first Italian documentary in virtual reality shot at 360 degrees.
