Hami, Xinjiang, Encounters Wind and Snow, Local Response Ensures Safety and Comfort for Trapped People

Hami City, Xinjiang, faced strong winds and heavy snowfall on the morning of the 17th, leading to the trapping of individuals on various road sections. Local authorities and residents took swift action to ensure the safety and comfort of those affected by the extreme weather conditions.

The G30 Lianhuo Expressway in the Yiwanquan area of Hami saw 16 self-driving tourists in 5 cars being trapped due to the adverse weather. The strong wind caused damage to the vehicles, shattering all the rear windows. Upon receiving the distress call, the public security department dispatched special police for immediate rescue. The stranded tourists were subsequently relocated to nearby hotels for accommodation.

The inclement weather also resulted in vehicles and individuals being trapped in Yizhou District of Hami City. The local government arranged residences for the 28 individuals who were unable to continue their journey, and local villagers took it upon themselves to prepare dinner for the stranded individuals.

Locals, like Li Cunde from Xinzhuangzi Village, Taojiagong Town, Yizhou District, demonstrated the community’s spirit by stating, “When they come to our village, if one party is in trouble, all parties support them, so we can do our best.”

One of the stranded individuals, Zhang Shengjie, expressed his gratitude, saying, “All food, drink, and accommodation were arranged for us as soon as we arrived.”

Efforts from both local authorities and residents were instrumental in ensuring the safety and comfort of those affected by the extreme weather conditions. As of now, roads in Hami City and its surrounding areas, which were impacted by wind and snow, have gradually resumed traffic, allowing for a return to normalcy in the region.
