UDINE. In the late evening of Saturday 14 August the carabinieri of the mobile radio section intervened in Viale Mirko, in Udine, where a mattress placed near a bin for separate waste collection had been set on fire shortly before.
As a result of the fire, both the waste container and the mattress were slightly damaged. The investigations carried out by the Arma soldiers made it possible to trace, a few hundred meters from the fire place, a 41-year-old Friulian with a police record, residing in the Udine hinterland.
Thanks to the testimonies of some citizens, who live not far from the place where the vandalism took place, the man was identified. He will be denounced in a state of freedom. A team of firefighters intervened promptly on the spot, which took steps to secure the area affected by the principle of fire.
Investigations are underway on other acts of vandalism carried out in viale Afro and viale Divisione Garibaldi Osoppo, where, in recent months, twenty-two bins have been set on fire. The last episode happened only a few days ago.
The arsonist had burned yet another waste container and also on that occasion the intervention of the firefighters and the police was necessary. The carabinieri of the Compagnia di Udine are working to verify any responsibility on the part of the man identified on Saturday evening in Viale Mirko.
