Woman accused of concealing body parts in Flatbush apartment
Heather Stines, 45, has been arrested and accused of concealing a body after police discovered a head and body parts stored in the freezer of her Flatbush apartment. The police have since determined that the case is a homicide.
Stines was arrested on Wednesday around 3:00 p.m. after undergoing a psychiatric assessment, according to authorities. She claimed that her husband, Nicholas McGee, was responsible for the murder and dismemberment. However, McGee has not been officially linked to the body.
Neighbors confirmed that the victim was Kawsheen Gelzer, a man who had been living in the apartment. They also mentioned that Stines had occasionally allowed a drug dealer to stay in the apartment in the past, but had stopped letting visitors near the kitchen, where the body parts were found.
According to sources, police responded to the apartment after receiving a tip about a concealed body. When they tried to open the fridge, Stines attempted to prevent them from looking inside where the body parts were found. She was also wanted for petty theft at the time of her arrest.
The District of Brooklyn Prosecutor’s Office has been contacted for further information. Meanwhile, an impromptu memorial has been set up in the lobby of the building for Gelzer. Neighbors have expressed shock and sadness at the gruesome discovery.
“It’s like a terrible thing,” said Dorothy Williams, a tenant in the building. The investigation into this harrowing case is ongoing.
