Hengshan County Celebrates Lantern Festival with Dragon and Lion Performance
In honor of the Lantern Festival, Hengshan County in China held a spectacular dragon and lion performance to usher in the new year of 2024. The event, titled “Auspicious Dragon Welcomes the New Year·Happy Hengshan Year,” took place on February 24th and showcased the county’s rich intangible cultural heritage.
The festivities were met with excitement and joy from the local community, with Ms. Cao expressing her happiness at witnessing the lively dragon and lion show. “I wish the motherland will be prosperous and the family will be happy and safe in the new year!” she exclaimed. The event was a celebration of the Lantern Festival, encouraging everyone to have fun, dance, and share laughter with loved ones.
Dragon and lion teams from various towns gathered at Hengshan County People’s Square and County Government Square, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere filled with gongs and drums. The 12 golden dragons and 4 lions performed captivating movements, delighting the audience with their skill and artistry. Local folk artists showcased the intangible cultural heritage of dragon and lion dances, receiving enthusiastic applause from spectators.
Mr. Zhang, a member of the dragon and lion team, expressed his gratitude for being able to share the joy and auspiciousness of the New Year with everyone. The event aimed to spread the cultural significance of traditional dances and bring the community together in celebration.
