DEGREE. He was entering the sea to cool off, given the high temperatures recorded also on Sunday 25 July. Suddenly, he felt ill and fell into the water and risked drowning.

Riccardo del Torre, 63, owner of the historic Torre pharmacy in viale Venezia in Udine, was admitted to the San Polo hospital in Monfalcone in the afternoon. His conditions are serious.

Del Torre was in Grado, where he was spending a few days off with his family. Yesterday he had decided to spend the day on the beach. In the afternoon, around 4.30 pm, he felt ill when he entered the water. It happened on the main beach managed by Grado Impianti Turistici, at the third tower, between the Ville Bianchi and the second entrance to the beach, not far from the tennis courts.

Rescue intervention immediately. The first to rush and pull Riccardo del Torre out of the water were a lifeguard on duty at Git, a doctor, a cardiologist, who was present on the beach at that time, and also the eldest son of the Udine pharmacist. The arrival of the 118 health workers was also timely, arriving on site in a few minutes with the Sogit ambulance in service in Grado, and the Coast Guard Circomare Grado. The sixty-three year old from Udine, known and respected in the city, was intubated and urgently transported by ambulance to the San Polo hospital in Monfalcone. As mentioned, his conditions are serious. «Our greatest wish – the words of Alessandro Lovato, sole director of Grado Impianti Turistici, immediately informed about the incident – is that Dr. del Torre can recover as soon as possible. I would like to thank our collaborators for the professionalism, effectiveness and promptness with which they managed the rescue intervention and also the health workers, who rushed to the scene. The ambulance managed to enter the beach and reach the rescue site without difficulty. In cases like this it is of fundamental importance to be able to count on professionally trained personnel, because this can absolutely help save a life ».
