In Fvg herd immunity in early September with 10,000 vaccinated every day

UDINE. Friuli Venezia Giulia, maintaining the pace of vaccinations of the last week with an average of more than 10 thousand administrations per day -, will reach herd immunity, i.e. coverage with both doses of 70% of the resident population, at the beginning of September , therefore just a handful of days after the goal set ideally by General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo on 31 August.

According to the elaboration carried out by Corriere della Sera, in particular, the result will be reached exactly on September 3.

The calculation of the Milanese newspaper is the result, as mentioned, on the long-term projection based on the administration of the last week of the vaccination campaign in which a quantity of vials was made available to the Regions as never before.

According to this very particular ranking, therefore, Campania, Abruzzo, Lombardy, Puglia, Molise and Lazio travel at a speed higher than the national average. By continuing at this rate, before September, they would reach the fateful threshold of 70% of citizens immunized with a full cycle or with Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose drug.

Campania, specifically, on 20 August, Abruzzo and Lombardy on 24, Puglia on 26, Molise on 29 August and Lazio on 30. Friuli Venezia Giulia, in this scheme, would be – together with Sicily – immediately after a to the leading group, hitting the 70% threshold on 3 September. More in difficulty, however, would seem to be Tuscany – September 14 – Veneto – on 20 – and Emilia-Romagna on 21. Overall, finally, at national level we reached – at 3pm yesterday – a total of 38 million 761 thousand 223 doses administered which led 13 million 190 thousand 876 citizens – that is 24% of the Italian population currently immunizable – to complete the entire vaccination cycle.

The Region, in these days, would like to give the vaccination campaign a new acceleration and, yesterday, in Palmanova the entire Health group, starting with the councilor Riccardo Riccardi and the central director Gianna Zamaro, held a special meeting with this very target.

In the meantime, the numbers, always updated as of yesterday afternoon, say that up to now the citizens of Friuli Venezia Giulia who have booked the vaccination are 663 thousand 309, equal to 55.3% of the entire regional population and 63% of the little more than one million people currently vaccinated under current rules. In these months, moreover, 568 thousand 79 first doses and 241 thousand 240 recalls (or single injections of Johnson & Johnson) were carried out, for a total of 809 thousand 319 injections which are equivalent to 92.5% of the vials delivered up to now by the pharmaceutical companies.

Taking as a reference time frame, going beyond, a range from yesterday to next Wednesday, moreover, the Region is planning a total of 89 thousand administrations against, however, a potential equal to just under 100 thousand with, therefore, about 10 thousand free places still available to citizens.

And this is precisely the real risk that occurs with the arrival of summer, that is, a massive availability of vaccine doses, but an adhesion that does not live up to the expectations and numbers necessary to achieve, in fact, the immunity of flock before the end of summer. «70% of the population over 40 – explains Riccardi – has booked for the anti-Covid vaccination. The percentage is lowered to 63% including the category from 16 to 40. To achieve the so-called herd immunity, it is necessary to work on all age groups, even the youngest, for this we need more doses of mRna vaccine, ie Pfizer or Modern ».

However, good news, in terms of membership, comes from the 20-year-olds in the Region. Campania, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Umbria are, in fact, the regions that have administered the largest number of doses in Italy to young people between 20 and 29 years, covering, respectively, 26.1%, 21.8% % and 21.3% of this population group.

Finally, this ranking relating to 20-year-olds also includes the Provinces of Trento and Bolzano with the latter having already reached 30.3% while Lombardy is at 20.7%, Sicily at 20.3% and Basilicata at 20%.
