IVREA. “Good quality, all in all, despite the limitations imposed by Covid. There were also horses from Valle d’Aosta and Biella. They called us from further away, but with 54 seats it wasn’t really possible ». It is the international judge Aiat Massimo Nicolotti, of the Italian attacks group, who with Davide Mindo presented the patronal of San Savino, to photograph the results of this year.

An edition, certainly, in a lesser tone than in the past, plagued by two epidemics: Covid, despite the period of truce in infections, and the equine Herpes virus, another respiratory disease that threatens European horses. Thus the available boxes have been reduced to 54 for 54 specimens. «This year – explained the mayor Stefano Sertoli -, it was not easy. But we still managed to organize the event with reduced numbers thanks to the Eporedia 2004 association and Elvio Gambone ».

Difficulties also witnessed by the evening of the parade of carriages, which saw a total participation of 3,500 people, according to the numbers released by the Ivrea and Banchette police station, which directed the work from the unified operations room with the collaboration of the carabinieri, the the financial police, the penitentiary police, the fire brigade and the municipal police of Ivrea.

About 30 policemen from the Ivrea Police Station and the Mobile Department were employed. During the evening there were no public order problems and the innovative LTE system used by the scientific police was used, which allows, via mobile devices, video surveillance in real time and in high definition.

Apart from limitations and restrictions, however, there is the joy of the winners, which nevertheless represented an important step towards the restart. Winning the “Best in show” was the Friesian stallion presented by Martina Paonessa together with the owner Samuel Pedrotta. The big news of this edition was the possibility to vote for the best horse with a like on Facebook. A horse just two years old won: the 2019 colt presented by Eric Varetto of Arca di Noah di Borgofranco d’Ivrea. He collected 381 likes, stopping the second which stopped at 248.

The Confagricoltura trophy goes to Antonello Veralda, with his Andalusian Lusitanian horse. The Barbero trophy, on the other hand, goes to the Wildhorse di Caluso which has collected prizes, if we also include the two tiles of San Savino for their paint horses and appaloosa. And to think that at the time of the award ceremony, the representatives of the riding center were not there: they had already been kidnapped by the party. Then, however, they showed up on stage and withdrew what was rightfully theirs.

The prize awarded by the Eporedia 2004 association, which organized the event, went to Massimo De Rosa’s hackney horse, who also won the trophy of the Italian group attacks with his Friesian gelding.

The recognition offered by Coldiretti, on the other hand, goes to Stefano Grendene with his heavy draft horse. To win the Kinema is Federico Rivan, with his gelder kwpn. The Pagliughi trophy was awarded to Michelle Franco’s Tinker barok pinto. As for the foals of the year 2018, Giuseppe Cavazzana was awarded by the Italian Farmers Confederation. A tile also went to Andrea Zanolli’s trotter horse, as well as to Paolo Vicario’s mule. Damiano Vicario instead won the prize of the San Bernardo pro loco for ponies up to one meter, for those up to 1.2 the Boasso trophy went to the little 7-year-old Audrey Bonsanto. Mautino, on the other hand, awarded the Baroni stable for those over 120 centimeters.

Then it was the turn of the reunification for couples, an entirely Ivrea peculiarity, as Mindo and Nicolotti underlined during the news. The Garda trophy went to Francesco Manzone’s two Hickney horses. Eporedia 2004 first had Mirko Rotella’s pair of claws. The Cavagnetto trophy was won by Maurizio Paonessa for his Friesian horses, while the Bardessono went to Marco Borra’s gelder kwpn, welcomed by a great encouragement.

The most beautiful moment, however, is when two pairs of horses entered as in a historic photo from the Sixties, which portrayed the deeds of two historical horsemen: Giovanni Gianotti and Dario Sardino. And in fact the Sardino family has awarded Gianotti, an institution of San Bernardo d’Ivrea. –
