Britain’s King Charles made his first public appearance on Sunday since announcing his cancer diagnosis. The British monarch traditionally went to church on Sunday morning.

Charles simply walked on Sunday morning – together with his wife Camilla – to St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, one of his royal residences where he currently resides. The monarch smiled and waved to bystanders. About a hundred fans and curious people had gathered at the gate of the royal domain, but were not allowed to enter.
On Saturday, Charles had already made himself heard for the first time since his cancer diagnosis, when he thanked the British people in a message for their “support and good wishes”, which he said, like many other cancer patients, regarded as “the greatest possible form of comfort and encouragement.”
Charles temporarily distanced himself from public engagements during his cancer treatment. Queen Camilla and Crown Prince William, among others, will take over those assignments for the time being.
