Lega: Veneto board votes to expel MEP Da Re – News

The former secretary of the Venetian League, and MEP Gianantonio Da Re, was formally expelled from the party by the Veneto regional executive council which met in Padua. The accusation is that of having defined the federal secretary, Matteo Salvini, as a “idiot” while giving an interview to the newspaper La Repubblica. 14 councilors voted for the expulsion, with four against and one abstention.

The expulsion, although decreed by the regional council of the League, must however be ratified by the Federal Council in Milan. The Board of Directors of the Venetian League this evening gave a positive opinion to the expulsion proposal. For Da Re the outcome was “a sentence already written”. The representative from Treviso justified the emphasis on Salvini as an episode that should have been classified as “a political criticism that needed to be made” and defined the Salvini League as “a usurpation”.
